A COVID 'hotspot' area in Dorset has been revealed, with five confirmed cases.
According to an interactive map, which uses data from Public Health England, five confirmed cases of Covid-19 are all linked to the same area of the county - Bovington, Wool and Lulworth.
The map splits the country up by Middle Super Output Area (MSOA), which are small areas with an average population of 7,200. The data is updated every weekday, and the map shows the latest seven days for which complete data is available.
At the time of writing, the data included lab-confirmed positive cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) reported by August 24 with specimen dates between August 15 and August 21.
The only shaded area in Dorset was the Bovington, Wool and Lulworth MSOA, with five confirmed cases in that timeframe.
The map is designed to show potential hotspots for the virus, with areas that have had between zero and two cases confirmed in that time frame not being shaded.
Cllr Laura Miller, Dorset Council’s Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care and Health and West Purbeck Councillor said: “We are aware of five confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Purbeck area. I want to reassure residents that these people are self-isolating at home and are not out in the community. All the contacts of these cases have been followed up and they are following the advice they have been given by NHS Test and Trace.
“I want to stress how important it is that we all keep following government guidance. Keep regularly washing your hands or using antibacterial gel where hand washing isn’t possible. Please limit your contact with others, keep two metres apart from anyone who you do not live with and where this isn’t possible, wear a face covering.
“If you start to feel unwell with coronavirus symptoms, book a test and do not leave your home except for going to have a test. You must self-isolate until you get the test result back.”
According to the latest data from Public Health England, there have been 652 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Dorset since the start of the pandemic.
The rate of infection in Dorset now stands at 172 cases per 100,000 people, and 222 in the BCP area - both far lower than the England average of 503.
