THIS is how Bournemouth beach looked in 1969.

The charming promotional film, entitled This is Bournemouth, was shared on the British Film Institute’s Facebook page last week, courtesy of Wessex and Sound Archive.

It has so far had 168,486 Views.

The short clip shows families enjoying the water and beachgoers lapping up the sunshine.

A voiceover says: “The main attraction to holidaymakers is the beaches with their safe bathing and adequate, clean soft sands, sparkling sea and safe promenade.

“There’s always room to laze or bathe, be energetic or relax, in fact the beach never seems to become crowded.

Bournemouth is described as “one of the few resorts that caters for most tastes and age groups.”

Its “discotheques, ballrooms, theatre, music and most other entertainments” are also praised.

The voiceover continues: “The high cliffs give an air of spaciousness and protection, the beaches are accessible, numerous roads give entry to them or you can go via the cliff lifts and the zig zag paths.”

“Bournemouth has hotels and accommodation to suit all pockets, from the deluxe to the more modest guest houses and the amenities of all are a good standard.”
