A CAR burst into flames at the side of the road in Ferndown.

Firefighters from the nearby Ferndown Fire Station rushed to the scene in New Road, near its junction with Chander Close, on Saturday morning.

No injuries were sustained in the incident. The car sustained extensive damage in the fire.

Residents reported that the road was blocked off while the fire crew extinguished the vehicle that had become engulfed by flames.

A spokesperson for Ferndown Fire Station said: "Called to a car fire this morning following a road traffic collision. Thankfully there were no injuries."

An image posted by the fire station on social media showed the state of the car after the incident had been dealt with.

Some of the vehicle's windows had smashed while the engine bay was completely ruined and the front trim had been completely destroyed.

There were reports of localised traffic delays while the fire was dealt with.
