EAST DORSET youngsters enjoyed a special play day as they prepared themselves for a day of frenetic fun.

Around 200 energetic children took part in all-action games such as football, cricket, hockey and rounders at the Queen Elizabeth Leisure Centre in Wimborne on August 22, 1990.

Aside from sports there was also a bouncy castle and parachute games.

The under-sevens were entertained with a Punch and Judy show, a merry-go-round, fancy dress and face painting.

Each of the three to 16-years-olds at the five-hour event was given animal badges and balloons.

Organisers East District Play Association had received 300 inquiries for the day and would have put on another scheme had they more supervisors.

Each child paid £3 and the profits went towards grants for other playschemes.
