MORE than 100 firefighters tackled a blaze at Ringwood Forest last night with crews continuing to battle it today.
The incident was reported at 5.27pm on Monday night.
Crews from Ferndown, Cranborne, Verwood, Westbourne, Poole, Wimborne and Christchurch attended along with firefighters from Ringwood, Lyndhurst, Fordingbridge, Burley and Totton.
At the peak there were 110 firefighters in attendance.
The fire involved a large area of trees - around 200m by 200m.
Crews remain on the scene today.
Residents are reporting the smell of smoke across the area, as far as Bournemouth and Christchurch.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is advising residents to keep their doors and windows closed.
A spokesperson said: "There is still an ongoing fire at Ringwood Forest which is causing a large smoke plume. This is resulting in a general haze of smoke over the Bournemouth area. Residents are advised to close their windows and doors."

A spokesperson from Hampshire Fire and Rescue said on Monday night: "Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 17.27 regarding an incident in the Ringwood Forest area.
