A ROAD in North Dorset was closed for four hours after a trailer overturned.

The incident happened on the A354 at Thornicombe near Blandford on Sunday night.

Police were called to the scene at 7.11pm and the road was closed.

The local authority was requested to attend due to fluid on the road.

The road was reopened by around 11.30pm.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said there were no reports of any injuries.

Police dealt with a number of incidents on Dorset's roads during the weekend.

Officers helped Dorset Council in urging visitors to avoid Durdle Door on Saturday.

Roads around Durdle Door had to be closed by police as traffic was gridlocked.

A spokesperson for Dorset Traffic Police said: "The roads into Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are now closed.

At one point, there was 1.5 miles of queuing traffic on the approach roads which needed to be turned around.

The spokesperson added: "Understandably there are some very unhappy people as some have travelled from significant distances."

Elsewhere in the county, a crash blocked a lane on the A338 Spur Road out of Bournemouth on Saturday evening.

The collision took place near the Ashley Heath junction on the northbound carriageway.
