Rescuers raced to Weymouth Beach in the early hours after reports a person was threatening to harm themselves.
Teams were alerted to the beach today after the person had gone into the sea and their were fears for their safety.
Wyke Coastguard Rescue Team got a call at 4.45am.
A team spokesman said: "An early start at 4.45am after a call to a person threatening self harm. South Western Ambulance Service were on scene as team members arrived on Weymouth seafront. Paramedics confirmed casualty safe and getting a precautionary check over after entering the water.
"On further investigation a small group had decided to go for a swim after a long night out."
