BOURNEMOUTH and Boscombe Light Opera Company have announced the cancellation of their upcoming production of Saturday Night Fever, planned for October this year.

The amateur musical theatre company said the decision was made “with a heavy heart”, but said they had “no option other than to cancel” their summer show.

However, the Bournemouth based musical theatre society have already began making plans for their production of Kinky Boots to be held at the Pavilion Theatre from Wednesday July 21 to Sunday July 24, 2021.

In an announcement made yesterday on their website and social media channels, Bournemouth and Boscombe Light Opera Company said: “It is with heavy heart that as a result of the current Covid-19 pandemic and in light of the current lengthy Government guidance in relation to performing arts and in particular how this relates to amateur theatre, coupled with the company’s duty of care to members of the company and those who work with us, we decided that we have no option other than to cancel our production of Saturday Night Fever planned for October this year.

“This is devastating for us as so much hard work and planning had already been put in and we were so close to being able to offer our audiences a fabulous show.

“Meanwhile we are thinking positively, looking forward and starting to plan for July 21 to July 24 2021 production of Kinky Boots at the Pavilion Theatre when, hopefully, life will be returning to some sort of ‘normality’.”
