A POPULAR family fairground is returning to Christchurch next month - with new safety measures in place.

B. Cole & Sons Family Fairground will be bringing all the fun of the fair to Christchurch Recreation Ground from August 6 to August 22, with new extreme rides accompanying the fairground's new hygiene and safety measures.

The fairground has been welcoming back guests since Saturday, July 11 following lockdown restrictions easing.

As a result, owner Tonia Cole decided to return to Christchurch.

However, many coronavirus imposed changes are in place which must be followed when visiting the fairground.

Tonia said: "We want to give people peace of mind and we’ve pretty much got everything covered. People can pay in cash or card but will be given a single-use ticket rather than a wristband as tickets allow a steady, constant flow of people. Wristbands make it harder to control the flow."

Other measures in place at the fairground include: temperatures being taken at the entrance, social distancing in place (which is mostly two metres), more space between amusements, hand sanitiser stations located around the fair and when each ride has finished, all areas are disinfected.

Gaps will also be left between seats on each ride.

Tonia added: "We want to give people peace of mind and we’ve pretty much got everything covered. I have six kids, and this is a strange time, so we have got to keep everyone safe. We are doing our best and I feel like we can show that we can do it. We’ve been operating at Christchurch for years so we are anticipating negative comments about no wristbands, but we’re trying to do the best we possibly can.

"This time has been tough for everyone, but particularly the kids. There’s only so many times you can ride your bike."

The fairground will be open from 1pm to 9pm daily, excluding August 9 and 16.

Each ride costs £2 but a ticket allowing access to all rides can be purchased for £20.
