Community spirit and a dash of history is at the heart of this Christchurch town centre pub, so it is little surprise this quirky boozer scooped Pub of the Week.

And after three months of lockdown, manager of the Ye Olde George Inn, Jamie Keki said his team are “absolutely delighted” to open the doors of the oldest pub in town once again.
“I can’t explain how happy the whole team is to see new and familiar faces in the pub and we want everyone to know that they are welcome at the Ye Olde George Inn. So, we want to offer an extended invite to our whole community to pop in, have a pint and say hello!”

Bournemouth Echo:
This Castle Street pub is steeped in history, once a coaching inn and where prisoners were held captive before they were deported to Australia.
Jamie said: “We love the quirkiness of the pub and its traditional feel, as well as it being a true local for our community. We serve proper pub food, and despite operating on a slightly reduced menu at the moment, we still have all the favourites, from pies to pizzas to burgers.

Bournemouth Echo:
“We are also pleased to offer our customers a wide range of drinks and we’re particularly proud of our selection of real ales, lagers and ciders.”
The Ye Olde George Inn boasts a beautiful courtyard, for al fresco dinking and dining.
“It’s been great to have since we’ve reopened  - the outdoor space gives people a sense of normality (almost!). Our customers have always come first. We pride ourselves in making everyone who walks through our doors feel at home.”

Bournemouth Echo:
Clear social distancing measures have been implemented at the Ye Olde George Inn. A one-way system is in place and customers can order food and drink from an app.
Single-use menus are on hand along with plenty of sanitiser and customers are encouraged to go contactless.
Jamie added: “We strongly encourage our customers to take part in the NHS’ Test and Trace service, as we believe this goes a long way to ensuring both our customers and our staff feel safe and secure."

Bournemouth Echo:
“I hope this summer is a long one! It’s been great to see the same people coming back again and again since we reopened, which really tells us that we’re making our customers feel safe while giving them a proper pub experience at the same time - and that is really what we wanted to achieve. We’re absolutely delighted to be open!”
