A MAN has been jailed after being found guilty of an attempted serious assault in Bournemouth.

Austin James Roberts, aged 27 and of Shelley Gardens, Boscombe, went on trial at Winchester Crown Court accused of attempting to murder a woman aged in her 20s in Southbourne on August 25, 2019.

A jury found Roberts not guilty of attempted murder but guilty by a majority verdict of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent on Tuesday, July 21.

Following the trial, he was sentenced by a judge to two years immediate imprisonment.

As reported, Dorset Police officers were called at around 1.05am on August 25 last year to a report of an assault in an address in Southbourne Grove.

A force spokesperson said: "The complainant – a woman aged in her 20s – sustained bruises and cuts on her body and injuries to her head and neck.

"She was taken to hospital for treatment and discharged the following day."
