Two coastguard teams were called in with the lifeboat and helicopter on standby for two 'missing' people looking for each other.

Coastguards from West Bay and Lyme Regis were called to Eype just after 10.15pm last night.

They'd received reports of two missing people with one believed to be stuck on the cliffs. One was last seen on Eype beach heading towards Thorncombe Beacon undercliff.

Lyme Regis coastguard rescue team joined the team from West Bay, while the RNLI Lyme Regis lifeboat was also readied to launch and coastguard helicopter put on standby.

On arrival at Eype, the person in question had been brought to safety by a member of the public.

A spokesman for West Bay Coastguard said: "As officers were arriving in Eype, both of the missing persons were found to be safe and well having just returned to the car park. Details were taken and safety advice was given."

A spokesman for Lyme Regis coastguard said: "Please do not put yourself at unnecessary risk and in any coastal emergency, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
