A SELFLESS and popular Ferndown mum who cared for her late husband for 40 years after he was crushed by a forklift truck, has died.
Lillian Scammell, 91, leaves behind her children Barry and Netty, much-loved sister, Terry, hundreds of friends and the Ferndown community.
The popular lady, who was a keen craftsman and bonsai enthusiast, raced around the town on her red mobility scooter, with many drivers tooting their horns and pedestrians stopping to say hello.

And she loved Monkey World.

"She was herself a cheeky little monkey!"

Her world was rocked when her husband Robert or Bob to his friends, had an accident at work and broke his back. Her son, Barry was just ten years old and for the next 40 years, she became Bob's carer.
"Mum was a very loving and caring person who went out of her way to help, if she could. She had a hard life looking after dad, who was disabled for 40 years of his life. Dad passed ten years ago, and mum missed him so much, but at least they are together now.

"But he was to me still the best"

"Unfortunately at the age of 41, dad had a bad accident at work was crushed by a forklift truck. He survived it but for the worse. He suffered a broken spine and for the rest of his life, lived in horrendous pain. So, although dad was here, I was ten when the accident happened, I never really had the father son relationship to do the simple things in life, like going down the pub or kicking a football around. The basics that you miss. But he was to me still the best."
Barry said: "She would terrorise the Ferndown residents - racing around town on her red mobility scooter! Everyone knew her and would always toot her from their cars or jump out her way if coming towards them!"
Lillian passed away on March 9, 2020 however lockdown had begun at the time of the funeral. A wake will be held at a later date.
Barry added: "We still miss her like mad and need to say good bye. I couldn't of wanted a better mum. She was so so caring."
