RESIDENTS in the New Forest are being urged to look out for their voter registration details from New Forest District Council.

Local residents are being warned not to lose their voice on decisions that affect them by ensuring their electoral registration details are up to date.

New Forest District Council (NFDC) will be contacting residents this summer to keep the electoral register up to date and identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.

With Police and Crime Commissioner Elections and County Council Elections taking place across Hampshire next year, this is an important opportunity for residents to make sure they can take part.

Service Manager for Elections at New Forest District Council, Rebecca Drummond said: "It’s important that residents keep an eye out for messages from NFDC over the summer, so we can make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for every address in the New Forest.

"In the current public health situation, this year, more than ever, it’s important that everyone follows the instructions we send for your household, and respond online where possible, so that we can limit personal contact and help keep everyone safe."

People who have moved recently are particularly encouraged to look out for the voter registration messages from NFDC and check the details to ensure they can get involved.

Head of Support and Improvement at the Electoral Commission, Melanie Davidson added: "It’s really important that everyone who is entitled to vote is able to do so. Making sure you provide the necessary information to your local authority when it is needed will ensure the process runs smoothly. This is particularly helpful in the current public health situation, as it will help avoid the need for home visits from canvassers."
