BOURNEMOUTH gets five out of five for its beach – but just three stars when it comes to peace and quiet.

The town came middle of the table in a list of the top 100 British seaside towns according to Which? members.

Which? asked its members to rate the beach, attractions, scenery, peace and quiet and value for money for more than 100 seaside towns and villages to find out which is the best for a UK holiday, weekend beach break or just a day out.

St Mawes in Cornwall came top of the table with an overall score of 85 per cent achieving five stars in categories for scenery and peace and quiet.

Bournemouth took 51st place achieving five stars for its beach, four for its attractions and scenery and three for peace and quiet and value for money with a score of 70 per cent overall.

Poole came in 61st place and was awarded four stars for its beach, attractions and scenery with three stars in the peace and quiet and value for money categories. It achieved a score of 69 per cent overall.

Swanage fared slightly better than Bournemouth and Poole coming in at 41st place with an overall score of 73 per cent. It was given five stars for its scenery with four stars in all other categories.

The average rate of a hotel room in Bournemouth was listed at £99 in Bournemouth, £112 in Poole and £120 in Swanage.
