IT’S official. Corfe Castle is one of the most ‘Instagrammable’ villages in the UK.

The picturesque Purbeck village which attracts thousands of visitors each year has been revealed as the 10th prettiest when it comes to achieving the perfect picture on Instagram.

Property website Bankrate has compiled a list of the 20 most Instagram-worthy villages after assessing the number of hashtags 100 villages around the UK each recorded.

The harbour village of Clovelly in north Devon was crowned the UK’s most ‘Instagrammable’ spot.

According to the data, Clovelly been captured on Instagram 134,353 times.

Portmeirion in Wales was runner-up with 114,323 hashtags.

Corfe Castle had 62,995 hashtags on Instagram and was the only village in Dorset to feature in the list.

Every year, photographers flock to the village to capture the dramatic ruins of Corfe Castle on camera which was partially destroyed by Oliver Cromwell’s Parliamentarians in 1646 during the English Civil War.

Enid Blyton is believed to have based Kirrin Castle, located on the fictitious Kirrin Island in Five on a Treasure Island where gold is discovered hidden in Kirrin Castle’s dungeons, on the ruins of Corfe Castle.

The children’s author holidayed in the area and first visited Corfe Castle in 1931 and, in the years following, she enjoyed arriving at the village by steam train from Swanage.

Other locations featured in the top 10 prettiest villages include Castle Combe in Wiltshire, Castleton in Derbyshire and Grasmere in Cumbria.

Bourton-on-the-Water in Gloucestershire, Robin Hood’s Bay in north Yorkshire, Bamburgh in Northumberland and Bibury in the Cotswolds were also included.

A spokesperson for Bankrate said: “To find the most Instagrammable villages, Bankrate.com/uk trawled through Google to find pages of the UK’s most ‘picturesque’, ‘beautiful’ and ‘prettiest’ villages listed online and noted down 100 recurring village locations.”
