POLICE smelt alcohol on a woman as she got out of her car, Island magistrates heard on Tuesday (14).

Tanya Scarlett Harding, 48, of Victoria Road, Sandown, was arrested when she pulled up behind police as they attended an incident at her former partner's home, and they smelt alcohol on her.

She admitted drink driving.

Ann Smout, prosecuting, said: "At around 7pm on June 12, police attended an address in Shanklin for an unrelated matter.

"An orange car pulled up and Ms Harding got out. Police could smell that she had been drinking and so asked her to perform a roadside breath test.

"She was found to have an alcohol reading of 101. The legal limit is 35."

Barry Arnett, defending Harding, said she had been through a lot. Her 16 year marriage had fallen apart when her husband moved in with a new woman.

On the day in question, Harding was waiting for him to bring over their daughter's belongings, but instead he called her to say he had dumped it all on his doorstep, and if she wanted it, she would have to 'come and get it'.

Mr Arnett said: "When she got there she parked up behind police, without issue and fully cooperative. There is no evidence of any poor driving."

Sentencing was adjourned to August 10.
