UP to 600 business in Bradford have yet to submit details to get Covid 19 Support Grants.

Shortly after lockdown began, the Government provided Bradford Council with £135 million to pass on to local businesses to help them survive the crisis.

At a meeting of the Council’s Corporate Scrutiny Committee on Thursday, members heard that so far £120m of this money had been passed on to around 10,600 businesses in the district.

Martin Stubbs, Director of Finance, was asked about the remaining £15m.

He said: “We still have a large number of businesses who have not provided us with the information we need to provide the grant.

“We are tying to make sure everyone who can apply will apply and get the grant.”

He estimated between 500 and 600 eligible businesses had not applied for the grant.

Members were told that any money that was not passed on to businesses would have to be returned to Government. It would then likely be diverted to provide support for areas facing local lockdown, such as Leicester.
