A 13-year-old girl has released an original song to show support for NHS workers, which includes her mother, and to raise money for NHS Charities Together.

Asha Menon, a student at Queen Elizabeth's School in Wimborne, is an aspiring singer-songwriter and wrote 'Be Strong' to show her support for those risking their lives for others during the pandemic.

Her mother Anna Menon is Dorset HealthCare's District Nursing Lead in East Dorset and inspired Asha's NHS dedicated song.

Anna said: "Asha has been thinking about doing this for a while as prior to lockdown my workload was increasing and I was not around as much. Asha is passionate about music, she lives and breathes it. The song is so poignant in many ways as some days you just have to keep going. She summed it all up beautifully.

"I thought the song was a really lovely idea and when I heard it I cried."

Asha also took inspiration from her own feelings of missing her friends and doing fun activities with them, making the song even more personal.

Anna said: "The song came quite easily to her and that's what amazes me. Music is real therapy for Asha as it's her means of escapism."

Asha's music video on Facebook has had nearly 70,000 views and has been shared far and wide by Anna's NHS colleagues as well as friends and family.

Anna added: "I've had some absolutely stunning comments and people have said some really, really lovely things."
