AN INVESTIGATION into an alleged rape in Southampton city centre was closed by police after officers discovered no offences had taken place.
Officers carried out inquiries at Regent Street near Ogle Road after reports of the alleged rape came at 10.30pm on Sunday, June 28.
A police car was parked at the entrance of the street and police tape made up a cordon under the alleyway.
Forensics officers were seen at the site and passers-by were left concerned and confused.
However on Monday evening, police confirmed that a crime had not been "disclosed" and that no offences had taken place.
The investigation has now been closed, a force spokesperson said.
The spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary added: "Following our initial enquiries, we can confirm that a crime has not been disclosed, and no offences have been taken place.
"Therefore, this investigation will be closed."
