A NEW mobile clinic for homeless individuals in Bournemouth has taken a step closer to becoming reality after £16,000 has been raised to fund it in just two weeks.

Bournemouth HealthBus’ ‘Get Back on the Road’ is looking to provide a purpose-built bus with additional safety meaures in order to continue providing face-to-face contact during the current pandemic.

However, the charity still has a long way to go to raise the £60,000 needed for the mobile clinic which will make healthcare easily accessible to people both on the streets and in emergency accommodation.

Medical Director of the Health Bus Trust Dr Maggie Kirk, GP said: “Buying a new bus to serve as a mobile clinic will enable our team to see patients in a safer space.

“People who are sleeping rough are particularly vulnerable to catching and spreading Covid-19, it's difficult for them to socially distance, self-isolate and access healthcare if they become ill.

“The need for a new mobile clinic is now.”

The team operate in close partnership with a range of like-minded organisations and allied services offering holistic care which includes housing, addiction and mental health support.
