A BOURNEMOUTH mental health charity has set up a new haircut initiative to support people during lockdown.

RJVN8 Mental Health is a charity organisation that was set up in response to the increasing mental health crisis amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The charity hopes to tackle mental health across the country head-on through a variety of methods.

The founders and 20 volunteers set up a helpline at the beginning of lockdown and have received over a hundred calls a day since.

Now, they have branched out to support people with haircuts with their new initiative.

Co-founder of RJVN8, Edward Bates said: "We aim to work with every group in society so we looked at what we could do in the short term. There are a lot of vulnerable people with mobility issues and health and beauty can make them feel good.

"Plus, frontline workers have been battered during the pandemic so we want to boost morale in the whole Bournemouth region."

Until July 4, people have the opportunity to book an appointment for a post lockdown haircut by some of the UK’s top professional hair stylists.

The hairdressers won't only be offering haircuts, but blow-dries, a curly blow-dry, colour and highlights and lowlights.

The charity plans on visiting to rural areas in Dorset and Bournemouth to provide haircuts to those who may find it difficult to travel.

Edward added: "We want to improve the well-being as a whole in the local community. The haircuts will be affordable as we don't want to hit people with fixed price salon lists, but people will be getting a good quality experience. The money will go back into worthy causes and programmes which help people with their mental health.

"This is not about the money, it's about making people feel better."

The haircuts are available for men, women and children alike, with all members of the community encouraged to get their hair cut in aid of a worthy cause.
