RESIDENTS have been left disgusted after soiled nappies were thrown from a flat onto the ground below in Southampton.

People living in Vanguard Road have told of their frustration after dirty and used nappies were hurled from one of the flats in the street, leaving the ground below littered with filth.

A resident who wanted to remain anonymous, told the Daily Echo that at one point he counted 32 dirty nappies scattered across the green, some of which had “split open and were displaying their contents”.

He explained how he has made a number of complaints to Southampton City Council regarding the situation with the nappies, but has seen no improvement on the situation.

He added: “A tenant of a flat in Vanguard Road had been throwing soiled nappies from the top floor window of her flat.

“They were only removed by the gardeners who wanted to mow the grass.

“That appeared to be the end of the matter as no more appeared.

“However, as of last week the problem has started again.

“I had reported [to Southampton City Council] seeing six soiled nappies but since then what looks like ten soiled wet wipes have added to the disgusting situation on the grass at the rear of the block.

“Whilst being in the midst of a health pandemic we do not need another health hazard as it will surely attract flies, rats and other vermin.

“This week is expected to be a scorcher with children playing on these grassed areas too.“

A Southampton City Council spokesperson said: “Everyone deserves to have pride in their neighbourhoods, so it’s a shame when a small minority act irresponsibly and spoil things for others.

“While we haven’t received any recent reports of anti-social behaviour in this area, our housing and neighbourhood teams are here to support tenants with community issues, both positive and negative, as they arise.

“Any tenant who is concerned about anti-social behaviour should contact their Local Housing Office or report it via our website so we can investigate it properly.”
