THE number of people who have died after contracting coronavirus in localised areas of Dorset and the New Forest has been revealed.

In its latest comprehensive data release, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) examined 46,687 virus deaths that occurred in England and Wales from March 1 to May 31 and were registered by June 6.

Over this period, the ONS data has 75 recorded deaths involving coronavirus for Bournemouth. Kinson East and Kinson West wards had the highest number of these deaths with eight each, followed by the East Southbourne and Hengistbury Head area with seven. Two areas of Bournemouth had no record deaths over this period – Charminster and Moordown.

The borough of Poole area had 81 recorded deaths involving COVID-19. The Poole Town area had the most with 22. Two areas of Poole had no deaths – Hamworthy East and Merley.

According to the ONS data, the New Forest had 124 deaths that involved coronavirus.

The rest of Dorset had fewer recorded deaths where coronavirus was involved, with Christchurch recording 20 deaths, East Dorset 38, Purbeck on 12 and North Dorset on 20.

The ONS has analysed details deaths that occurred in England and Wales between March 1 and May 31, and which were registered by June 6, where Covid-19 was the underlying cause or was mentioned on the death certificate as a contributory factor.
