SALISBURY District Hospital has reported a further coronavirus-related death.
A man in his 80s with underlying health conditions died yesterday, bringing the total number of patients who passed away after testing positive for the virus to 55.
A spokesperson from Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust said: “Sadly a total of 55 patients who had tested positive for COVID-19 have now died at Salisbury District Hospital.
"A man in his eighties, with pre-existing health conditions, died on 2nd June.
"Our thoughts and condolences are with the patient’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
Overall, a further 179 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died in hospitals across England in the past 24-hour period, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths to 27,044.
Patients were aged between 12 and 97 years old. Four of the 179 patients (aged between 78 and 93) had no known underlying health condition.
Of these, eight were in the South West.
