THE judging panel were given a surprise at the Poole Carnival when a float sporting real grass passed by.
Onboard were youngsters playing a quick game of lawn tennis.
The date was June 13, 1990, when Tom the shire horse pulled an old steam fire engine, nicknamed Victor, dating back from 1892.
This was followed by a float which belonged to the Poole’s centenary and carnival queen Jo-Ann Smith.
