YORKSHIRE Building Society has scooped two top accolades at a prestigious awards event.

It has been named the Best Building Society Savings Provider and Best Building Society Mortgage Provider at the Moneyfacts Awards 2020.

The Bradford-based mutual won the top accolades in the finance data company’s awards, which recognises financial services providers for their products and services.

This year due to the coronavirus outbreak the awards were announced on Twitter.

Benjamin Merritt, senior mortgage product manager, said: “We’re thrilled to be recognised as the best building society mortgage provider and to receive this award which is a great achievement in what is currently a very competitive mortgage market.

“We’re pleased our commitment to offering a strong and varied range of mortgages has been well received and this accolade is testament to that.”

The Yorkshire Building Society was also highly commended in the Personal Finance Provider of the Year and the Best Fixed Rate Mortgage Provider categories at the annual awards.

Louise Halliwell, senior savings product manager, said: “To be named the best building society provider of savings accounts is a great achievement especially in such a challenging savings environment.

“We’re proud to be recognised for offering a variety of fixed and variable accounts that help people to save. It’s something we’ve been doing for more than 150 years.”

The finalists and eventual winners of the Moneyfacts Awards are decided upon via a combination of methods.

For all product-specific categories, detailed weekly analysis of the data provided to Moneyfacts and displayed in Moneyfacts Magazine or on any of the Moneyfacts online systems between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2019, is undertaken by its well-qualified research team.

For service categories, the intermediary community is given the chance to vote for their preferred providers in a survey, which runs from January 6, 2020, to February 14, 2020.

Those voting are asked to consider all aspects of the service offered by providers in the preceding 12 months.

An internal judging panel then assesses the results and decides the final positions of finalists in the innovation category.
