AN ELDERLY man and his son had to be rescued by a lifeboat crew after their boat capsized.
The man, who had been sailing a 16ft boat, had been hit on the head by the vessel's boom during the incident on Saturday evening.
Both Poole lifeboats were launched to the south side of Furzey Island in Poole Harbour.
Crew went ashore and gave care to the man, who was cold and in discomfort.
The casualty was taken from Furzey Island to an awaiting ambulance at North Haven steps.
Volunteers from Poole Coastguard Rescue Team were there to greet the lifeboat and help transfer the casualty from the lifeboat across into the care of the ambulance crew, who then took him to Poole Hospital.
The stricken sailing boat was towed back to North Haven slipway.
