A KAYAKER who got into 'difficulties' on the Dorset coastline has been rescued by coastguards and lifeboat crews today.

The alarm was raised by Swanage National Coastwatch Institution, who alerted the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to a kayaker believed to be having difficulties to the south-west of their watch tower at around 8.50am.

A spokesman for the coastguard said: "Swanage RNLI lifeboat was sent and they were able to locate the kayaker and escort the person to a place of safety."

Roads to some Dorset beaches have been closed today following a critical incident yesterday at Durdle Door.

Several people were seriously injured jumping from the arch into the sea.
