FIREFIGHTERS rushed to a Poole address after a skip burst into flames.

Fire crews were called to Ashley Road at around 1am today after a skip caught alight.

It is believed to have gone up after a disposable barbecue was thrown away.

No one was injured and police also attended the incident.

However, firefighters are urging people to fully extinguish BBQs once they have finished using them.

Posting on social media, Poole Police said: "Around 1am police and fireFfghters were called to an address on Ashley Road following reports of a fire.

"It is suspected a disposable BBQ was placed into a residential skip. Due to the way in which these items burn, the BBQ generated heat for some time, after which it ignited waste in the bin resulting in emergency services being called. "Fortunately no one was injured.

"If you are going to place these items in a bin, they must be fully extinguished first using plenty of water to soak the coals. Please be careful and show respect to others when using disposable BBQ's. The result of ignorance can be catastrophic, as has been seen in Wareham recently."
