THE Twin Sails Bridge reopened yesterday after the latest stage of repairs.

Following the removal of a second pin and testing of the bridge, it is now back in operation.

This work by BCP Council has been done in advance of planned surfacing works taking place on West Quay Road, which require Poole Bridge to be closed to vehicles.

The resurfacing is due to force the closure today and tomorrow. Pedestrian and cyclist access over Poole Bridge will be maintained.

Longer term work on Twin Sails is still required and the council’s review to rectify the issues with the bridge continues.

Future works include the installation of a new pin to replace the one that has been removed.

Councillor Andy Hadley, BCP Council’s cabinet member for transport and infrastructure, said: “I am pleased we have been able to reopen Twin Sails ahead of the surfacing works taking place on West Quay Road.”

“Whilst we appreciate there will still be some disruption, it’s essential that works take place this week whilst people are still advised to stay at home as much as possible and ahead of the anticipated increase in traffic when schools return from June 1. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.’’
