A HORSE rider from North Yorkshire is set to appear on a reality TV show after being kicked in the leg and airlifted to hospital.

Christine Drury, from Sheriff Hutton, sustained a nasty leg injury in January 2019 after being kicked by a horse while out riding on the gallops in preparation for the Sheriff Hutton Point to Point,.

The longtime supporter of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, who has helped raise £100,000 for the charity as part of the Sheriff Hutton Point to Point committee, had to be airlifted to hospital after the accident.

“I was relieved to see them coming to help and it was amazing seeing them land”, she said.

The critical care team had to administer ketamine to straighten her leg at the scene, before flying her to York District Hospital, where further tests revealed a serious fibula and tibula facture.

She later had a metal frame fitted and underwent a skin graft from her thigh to cover up the extensive injuries she had sustained, spending 12 days in hospital.

Her story will feature on Helicopter ER at 9pm tonight.

The show is made by York-based Air Television and is aired on Channel Really.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance carries out more than 1,500 missions every year and operates two, state-of-the-art Airbus H145 helicopters. It needs to raise £12,000 every day to keep saving lives.
