A DOG got stuck in the mud with the tide coming in after escaping from its owner's garden.

Coastguards and mud rescue teams were alerted by worried members of the public after Freda got into difficulties in Poole.

She was said to be tiring in thick mud near Davis' boat yard at Cobbs Quay Marina in Hamworthy.

The Poole Coastguard Rescue Team was alerted just after 3pm yesterday. They called for help from Poole Lifebaot volunteers and a second mud team from Lymington Coastguard.

By the time they arrived members of the public had launched in dinghies and were recovering the dog.

The owner was located with the help of Facebook and members of the public.

"Naughty Freda the dog is an escape artist and pushed the gate off its hinges" said a spokesman for Poole Coastguard.
