EMERGENCY services called to reports of an unexploded bomb at Hengistbury Head discovered an old mechanical starter motor.
Southbourne Coastguards were called just after 2pm yesterday after the item was spotted by a member of the public.
When they discovered the item was harmless it was removed but coastguards thanked the member of public who called them and said it was a false alarm with good intent.
The coastguard team was stood down and returned to station.
