DORSET Police have reminded people to “act responsibly” after a group of individuals were spotted playing football on artificial pitches in Littledown.

The incident, involving a group of footballers was reported to police on Monday evening after they were seen breaking social distancing and lockdown restrictions.

Although the lockdown restriction have since been relaxed so that people can now do unlimited exercise, team sports such as football are still not permitted.

A spokesman from Dorset Police said: “This incident was reported to us at 6.45pm on Monday 11 May 2020. At the time, we had not received further clarity and guidance from the Government about the changes to the restrictions.

“The Government has since made it clear that exercise should only be carried out alone, with members of your household, or with one other person from outside your household, so long as social distancing measures are adhered to.

“Team sports such as football are not allowed with more than one person from outside your household."

The 3G pitches, located near the BH Live centre in Littledown, are operated in partnership with BH Live and BCP Council.

The pitches are also used by PlayFootball, who also operate in Kinson and Bournemouth.

BH Live have reiterated that the pitches are “currently closed” and thank the support from Dorset Police.

The police spokesman added: “We would like to remind the public to act responsibly at all times and continue to observe social distancing guidelines when you are outside your home, including ensuring you are two metres away from anyone outside your household.”
