ACROSS all hospital and care home settings in Dorset, 251 people have died after contracting coronavirus as of May 8.

The Office for National Statistics, combined with the Care Quality Commission, releases figures of care home deaths weekly.

Added to the statistics from NHS England, which show hospital deaths and are released daily, it shows 251 people have died in the county.

As previously reported, 111 Dorset care home residents died between April 10 and May 8.

58 of these came in the BCP Council area, 53 in the Dorset Council area.

In Hospitals across Dorset, as of May 8 140 people had died after contracting the virus.

59 of these came at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals and 45 at Poole Hospital.

At the Dorset County Hospital, 23 coronavirus patients have died and 13 have under the care of the Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust.

Between May 1 and May 8, 25 people had died across all hospital and care home settings.

18 of these were in care homes.
