ARSONISTS set light to a large area of woodland at West Moors Plantation in Dorset last night (Monday May 11).

Firefighters from Ferndown, Ringwood and Wimborne were called to an area near Elmhurst Road at 10.17pm.

An off-road fire engine, Land Rover and water carrier were also called to the scene.

They used two main lines and two hose reel jets to extinguish an area of woodland and undergrowth roughly 150m x 50m.

Crews tackled a similar fire in the area last month and think both were started deliberately.

Following the fire in April, a spokesman for the service said: "We’ve spent all evening at a deliberate fire at West Moors plantation caused by youngsters.

"Parents, do you know where your kids are? This tied up vital resources when we could have been needed elsewhere."
