LONG queues are expected when tips reopen to the public this morning.(Monday May 11)

BCP Council's tips at Wilverley Road in Christchurch, Millhams in Bournemouth and Nuffield in Poole will be available for use, as will those across the Dorset Council area.

They are expected to be busy after weeks of lockdown have seen people carrying out repairs and clean-ups at their homes.

All tips closed in March but there have been increasing calls for the facilities to be reopened.

Among those calling for their reopening was Bournemouth East MP Tobias Ellwood.

Tips can open because the guidance on what constitutes an essential journey has been changed.

But the public has been asked not to go unless they think their trip is absolutely necessary.

Tips will open from 9am until 6pm, seven days a week.
