POLICE seized an uninsured car parked on zigzag lines while the driver waited for his KFC in Winton High Street.

Officers from the Dorset Police No Excuse team spotted the white VW Golf while out on patrol on Saturday.

“The driver was parked on zigzags waiting for his KFC and when we checked he wasn’t insured” said a spokesman.

“He borrowed the car from a friend and stated he was fully comp on his insurance to drive other cars - he wasn’t. His policy didn’t allow him to drive other cars.

“He only passed his test in February this year so with potentially nine points he’s been reported to court. Please check your insurance.”

The VW was one of a number of vehicles seized as officers patrolled the county.

A drink driver was stopped after being seen speeding down residential streets in Parkstone in Poole during the morning driving a Vauxhall Zafira.

Officers said the vehicle was stopped at 11.20am and that the driver smelt heavily of alcohol despite claiming not to have had a drink since the previous evening.

“He blew over at the station and he was left in a cell. Before we left he stated he needed his licence for work. He will be charged to court soon. Please think twice before you drive when you’ve had a drink” said the spokesman.

A striped blue BMW was seized after it was seen speeding near Poole police station.

All four tyres were found to be dangerous so the car was seized and the driver was given a formal warning for anti-social driving.

“The driver promised he wouldn’t speed again and stated he had ordered the tyres from China and was waiting for them” said police.

“His MOT on the 2/3/20 advised him to change them ASAP - he didn’t and continued to drive irresponsibly not a wise idea.

“Hopefully he will think twice now when he collects his car before he puts his foot down again.”

A silver BMW was stopped in Ringwood Road, Poole and the driver was found to be uninsured. The policy had been cancelled because the owner had not provided proof of no claims bonus. The car was seized.

And a third BMW was stopped for speeding as officers returned to Poole police station after the day-long operation.

Several motorists were also dealt with for breaking lockdown restrictions.
