THE number of people who have died after contracting coronavirus in localised areas has been revealed.

In a comprehensive data release, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) examined 20,283 virus deaths registered in England and Wales from March 1 to April 17.

Over this period, the ONS data has 27 recorded deaths involving coronavirus for Bournemouth. Kinson East has the highest number of these deaths with five, follwed by Boscombe West with three. Nine areas of Bournemouth had no record deaths over this period - Central Bournemouth, Charminster, East Howe and Ensbury Park, Iford, Moordown, Northbourne, Queen's Park, Townsend and Strouden, Winton.

The borough of Poole area had 29 recorded deaths involving COVID-19. The Poole Town area had the most with 10. Five areas of Poole had no deaths - Bearwood, Branksome East, Hamworthy East, Merley, Penn Hill.

According to the ONS data, the New Forest had 40 deaths that involved coronavirus.

The rest of Dorset had fewer recorded deaths where coronavirus was involved, with Christchurch recording four deaths, East Dorset 12,  Purbeck on four and North Dorset on nine.

The ONS has analysed details of the 20,283 deaths that occurred in England and Wales between March 1 and April 17, and which were registered by April 18, where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate as the underlying cause of death or a contributory factor.
