THEY are the army of vital workers that is helping our country through its darkest time since the second world war.

From the nurses and doctors on the front line in hospitals and surgeries, to carers and staff in care homes, they are the people who are risking their lives daily to save others.

There are also the thousands of other key workers, in schools, emergency services, public transport and local councils, who have kept our country going, and will do for weeks still more to come.

Every Thursday we have stood on our door steps and balconies at 8pm to clapped with our neighbours as a token of appreciation for our key workers.

In two weeks the country will commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day. On May 8 we will remember our war heroes of yesteryear who paid the ultimate sacrifice as we secured victory in Europe over the threat of Hitler’s Nazis.

Today the Daily Echo is appealing to find our 21st Century heroes. To recognise those, across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch, who have risked their lives in the fight against coronavirus.

We want readers to nominate their own hero - a health worker, doctor, nurse, or carer - who has gone above and beyond in their public duty. It may even be another type of key worker who has gone out of their way to serve the public.

Let us know your 21st century hero who deserves recognition. Please email the name and details of your hero along with a photograph, if you have one, along with your own contact details, including phone number to: greg.luckhurst@bournemouthecho.co.uk
