THE REGENT Centre in Christchurch is inviting people to create short films whilst they are in isolation for their first film festival in October.

The independent cinema is looking for families and groups in isolation to get creative by making short films to be submitted and screened at the event on Sunday October 11.

As well as short films from the general public, the Regent Centre’s inaugural film festival will also feature the winner of the Best Film category, recently made films produced by more accomplished filmmakers.

General Manager at the Regent Centre Matthew Vass-White said: “We wanted to create an event that will capture people’s imaginations whilst we are all indoors at the moment and create a beautiful event from this to end the project where we can all finally meet back together again in our beloved venue.”

The festival will end with the premiere of the best new work on our big screen as chosen by a volunteer judging panel.

The proceeds of the event will be split between the Regent Centre Development Fund and local charities.

Whilst the Regent Centre is closed, organisers are working on a programme of virtual screenings to be shown on the cinema’s website, including free full length shows from the Met Opera, the National Theatre and the Royal Opera House.
