A DORSET letter writing charity has experienced a huge surge in requests as more vulnerable people are self-isolating due to the coronavirus outbreak.

From Me to You is a charity which tackles the social isolation, often experienced by cancer patients, by distributing letters.

In recent weeks, the three-year-old charity has seen a huge increase in requests for letters, as well as writers requesting letter-writing kits which contain writing tips, sample letters and stationery.

As many people begin to understand the impact that isolation is having, more people are turning to letters to keep connected with their friends and loved ones.

Alison Hitchcock, the co-founder of the charity, said: "The requests for letters have doubled in the last few weeks as more vulnerable people spend time alone.

"Sending a letter or postcard to someone self-isolating is a simple thing to do but will make a difference. We can all do our bit."

Last year the charity distributed more than 5000 letters.
