THEY had been preparing for months, building imaginative scenery, designing intricate make-up and creating colourful costumes.
All their work paid off when, on March 3, 2000, the curtain rose on Rock Challenge and their interpretative dances commenced.
The dedication and work by more than 900 children from dozens of schools was evident in their final glittery and energetic performances.
The event, which was in its fourth year, was organised in conjunction with Hampshire police as part of an anti drugs initiative to show how children can have a natural high.
Seven teams from schools in Hampshire - Redbridge Community School and Regents Park School both from Southampton, Brune Park Community School, Gosport, Hamble School, The Arnewood School, New Milton and Wildern Juniors and Seniors from Hedge End - took part in the dramatic production.
