EIGHT fire crews rushed to a forest in Wareham following a report of smoke and fire in a field.
A large area of heath was alight at Woolsbarrow Fort - filling 750 square metres of ground - when the crews began to tackle the fire on Friday at 10.18pm.
Two off road pumping appliances, two land-rover pumps, multiple hose reel jets, main lines and a unimog were used to put out the fire.
The crews first sent to the scene were from Poole, Wimborne, Hamworthy, and Wareham.
A further request for assistance was then received for another two off road appliances from Swanage and Christchurch, and two water carriers from Poole and Ringwood.
The Wildfire Tactical Advisor also attended.
A re-inspection of the incident will be carried out later on today.
