A BAR has suffered backlash after they displayed pints for £2 on the same night that bars were told to close.

Buffalo Bar Landsdowne, which has now closed temporarily, put up a sign outside the front of the bar on Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth, advertising the discounted drinks - which were available until 11.30pm on Friday evening.

The sign was posted onto social media telling people to "come drink the taps dry" after the government told bars, restaurants, pubs, cafes, leisure centres, gyms, theatres, and cinemas to close in a bid to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

The post read: "All pints are £2 all night until 11.30 when we close for a while.

"Stay safe out there people. Come drink the taps dry."

However, it now appears the bar has removed the post from their public Facebook page.

The social media post led to a variety of comments from people such as "surely staying safe equals staying at home" as well as comments made by Olivia Goulding, which said it was the "dumbest post" she had ever seen.

She told the Bournemouth Echo: "I think it’s disgusting personally, there are people like me who are taking the social distancing and self isolation seriously, and then you have places like Buffalo and their clientele that just don’t care that we’re in the middle of a pandemic."

Despite the backlash, crowds of punters were seen attending the social venue on Friday night.

Olivia added: "Surely drunk people can’t manage to socially distance themselves.

"I do understand that as an independent bar it is difficult in these uncertain times, but I value life over money any day, and to incentivise people to come down to their bar, it’s ridiculous."

The bar had previously told their customers to use hand sanitizer before ordering drinks and that they had taken extra steps to ensure they are "germ-free".

Buffalo Bar Landsdowne were contacted by the Bournemouth Echo for comment.
