A FAMILY run care home in Southbourne made sure their current lockdown due to coronavirus wouldn’t prevent their residents from being entertained, as a local performer sang from the home’s garden.

Aucklands Rest Home, an eight-bed home specialising in complex needs such as dementia and mental health, welcomed entertainer Steve Linn, who serenaded people at the home through the building’s windows.

The home has followed government guidelines and put in precaution to restrict the number of visitors entering the building.

Owner of the home Lynn Hart said: “With the current position of covid-19, it is a difficult times for us all, but whilst our vulnerable residents need to be isolated to keep them safe, the management and fantastic staff want to maintain as much as we can of their normal daily life.

“Music is so important to them and has such a positive effect, even those who can no longer communicate verbally.

“Steve Linn has been coming to Aucklands for two years and can be seen dancing with our residents, duets with our staff and anything that brings a smile to their faces.”

Steve Linn, who mainly does covers Rock n Roll, Soul and Jazz classics, has also been performing for other care homes across Dorset during the coronavirus outbreak.

Lynn added: “When faced with cancelling Steve, together we came up with the idea and it was such a success.”

“Thank you, Steve, but also a huge thank you to our outstanding staffing team and families who support at this difficult time it is so important.”

Steve will continue performing at Aucklands, at 11:30 every Friday for the next few weeks in the home’s garden.
