As of Wednesday April 1, BCP Council will be in charge of bin collections in the Christchurch area.

In the meantime, your service from the Dorset Waste Partnership will not change, it will remain the same until Wednesday April 1 when the takeover commences.

With the switch comes a few changes to how your rubbish will be collected. Here is everything you need to know.

Wilverley Road Household Recycling Centre

From Wednesday April 1, Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and Dorset Council residents will need to bring proof of address to access the Wilverley Road Household Recycling Centre.

Hampshire residents will no longer be able to use this Household Recycling Centre.

No more kerbside boxes

You will no longer need to use your kerbside boxes for glass as glass can now go into your main recycling bin.

Recycling bins can be used for glass jars, glass bottles, aluminium foil and Tetra Pak cartons as well as tins, cans, metal lids and aerosols.

Residents are welcome to keep your kerbside collection box for other uses, otherwise they can dispose of it at their local Household Recycling Centre.

Garden waste

Christchurch's Garden Waste service will also transfer over to BCP Council from the Dorset Waste Partnership from 1 April.

The fortnightly collection service runs pro-rata from April – December and costs £37.65.

Collection days and crews will stay the same

Christchurch will still get the same fortnightly collections for waste and recycling and a weekly collection for food waste.

Bins will also still be collected by the same crews.

On the day of your general waste and recycling collections, one vehicle will collect your general waste or recycling bin and another vehicle will come around and collect your food waste.
