A VEHICLE recycling company has been given the green light for a £7.5million purpose-built factory project in Poole.

Charles Trent has permission to press ahead with its 100,000 square foot development on the company’s site in Ringwood Road.

The firm says the factory will be the largest project in its 94-year history and once complete it will create between 50 and 60 new jobs, bolstering the existing 220-strong workforce.

Bosses want to improve their material recycle rate to bring it as close to 100 per cent as possible. To attempt to achieve this the company will demolish the existing warehouses to bring all operations under one new roof.

Marc Trent, managing director of Charles Trent, said: “This project is already three years in the planning with another two years to completion, so a lot still needs to be done.

“Our goal is to retrieve more product from each vehicle efficiently and to meet the growing demand for used parts globally.

“In addition, we will be increasing the very strict recycling target of 95 per cent to as close to 100 per cent.

“This new facility will introduce new techniques and working practices that will enable us to be the most efficient and forward-thinking vehicle recycler in the world.

“Charles Trent already has many years of experience within its 220 strong workforce and now is the time to welcome new people and new skills to our industry.”

Alongside the factory development, a new warehouse has been commissioned in Holton Heath, with an estimated completion date of August.

Following the completion of the warehouse, work will begin on the factory. Charles Trent aim to finish this build by the end of next year.

Planning permission was given by a BCP Council officer, who said the application would be “wholly compatible with the use of the site and would not compromise neighbouring employment uses”.

A report by planning officer Claire Moir said: “The proposals would facilitate the internalisation of existing works at the site with improved efficiency of existing operations, which will result in environmental benefits and improved relationship to neighbouring residential properties, whilst maintaining the employment character of the site.”
