TWO residents at the Retired Nurses National Home in Bournemouth celebrated their 64 wedding anniversary during Valentine's week.
Len and Delia Butler, who have been together since 1956, say the secret to a long and happy marriage is a 'bit of give and take'.
The doting couple met while they were both waiting for a bus to Boscombe in 1956.
It was in this moment that Len knew Delia was 'the one'.
He said: "I knew Delia was the one, the first time I saw her. A lot of people have asked me ‘what’s your secret?’ or ‘how have you two lasted together so long?’; the answer is easy. Firstly we’re best friends and secondly, Delia is always right."
Delia added: "Len and I are still as happy together as they day we got married. It’s the little things that matter and we are each other’s biggest fans and best friends. There's always lots of laughter too."
Staff and fellow residents at RNNH, the care home run by charity Friends of the Elderly, celebrated the milestone anniversary on February 11 with a delicious afternoon tea.
Manager at RNNH, Alan Johnston said: "Len and Delia are a lovely couple and have a wide circle of friends at the care home. Their marriage is certainly blessed as it’s no mean feat reaching 64 years together. It was definitely a day to celebrate and treasure."
With no traditional anniversary gift for 64 years, the assigned flowers are sunflowers, which prove that the sun continues to shine on Len and Delia.
